Holy Fire - Holy Sepulcher Jerusalem - Easter Apr 11, 2015

JERUSALEM Thousands of Christians have gathered in Jerusalem for an ancient fire ceremony that celebrates Jesus' resurrection. In a ritual dating back at least 1,200 years, they crowded Saturday into the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where Christian tradition holds that Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected. During the annual ceremony, top Eastern Orthodox clerics enter the Edicule, the small chamber marking the site of Jesus' tomb. They then emerge to reveal candles said to be miraculously lit with "holy fire" as a message to the faithful from heaven. The details of the flame's source are a closely guarded secret. Roman Catholics and Protestants marked Easter last Sunday, in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. Eastern Orthodox churches celebrate Easter this week using the older Julian calendar.

world class oil resource in the countryside to the south of London

A small British oil producer said it had discovered a possible world class oil resource in the countryside to the south of London that could contain billions of barrels of oil.

The London-listed oil explorer UK Oil & Gas Investments (UKOG) (UKOGa.L) said on Thursday up to 100 billion barrels of oil could lie below the green fields around Gatwick Airport, however it cautioned that only a fraction of that could be recovered.

The news sent shares in the small firm up 200 percent and prompted the national press to dub the area "Britain's Dallas". Oil industry analysts struck a note of caution however.

"We think we've found a very significant discovery here, probably the largest [onshore in the UK] in the last 30 years, and we think it has national significance," UKOG Chief Executive Stephen Sanderson told the BBC.

Britain has for decades relied on the North Sea for its oil needs, particularly during the 1980s when Margaret Thatcher's government reaped the rewards of booming output and high prices. But output there has started to fade since the turn of the century.

UKOG's oil find is located in Britain's southern Weald Basin, a largely rural area near the airport which lies adjacent to Europe's largest onshore oil field, located at Wytch Farm.

A government-commissioned report said last year the Weald Basin also holds 8.57 billion barrels of shale oil, a type of oil trapped in underground rock which is different to the oil explored for by UKOG.

Zero Gravity and Cocktail

Astronauts hoping to sip drinks in style may soon have an open-top cocktail glass to look forward to.

Called the Zero Gravity Cocktail Project, the idea is to create an open-top cocktail glass that can be used in space. The glass would use an innovative "groove system" that would keep fluids under control, and only release them when someone takes a drink.

The creators of the glass design, called the Cosmic Lifestyle Corp., are currently seeking funding for the project on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter.com. However, as of this posting, the company has yet to raise $2,000 of the desired $30,000 before the April 2 deadline.

With current space-based beverage technology, astronauts wishing to quench their thirst must drink from a closed container, using a straw (with the exception of astronaut Don Pettit's zero-gravity coffee "cup"). With the Zero Gravity Cocktail glass, astronauts would be able to drink from something that's more like the drinking glasses used on Earth.
"We are creating an open-air drinking container that allows you to enjoy the aroma of the drink, yet keep the fluids under control. Your mouth completes the connection like a straw and you can suck the drink into your mouth," the Kickstarter page said.
"We are also hoping to inspire the idea of a future when space hotels are in orbit and settlements are on other planets [where] people can relax and enjoy the experience of a quality drink, no matter what the gravity! Design aesthetics is just as important as the technical capabilities, and what is more stylish than a cocktail glass?"
According to the Kickstarter page, some of the requested funding would be used to make several 3D-printed prototypes of the glass, in order to revise and perfect the design. The printing needs to be done on mid- to high-level printers; basic, hobby-grade 3D printers don't work because they can't properly support the structure of the glass, the company said.
The money would also be used to test the glass on parabolic flights (flights where an airplane dips and climbs to simulate gravity changes) and also to find a third-party service that could reduce the costs of printing the glasses in the long term.
The company's long-term goal is to 3D print a glass on the International Space Station using a Made In Space printer, but the company did not disclose on Kickstarter when it hopes this will happen.
The concept has received support from the Space Frontier Foundation and the Space Tourism Society, the Kickstarter page said. Advisors to the project include private space traveler Richard Garriott and Jonathan Knowles, a senior advisor at the 3D design firm Autodesk.

Tech Billionaires

15 richest tech billionaires

FORBES ranked the 15 richest tech billionaires, altogether worth $426 billion. Their wealth is up 11.6% from last year’s group.

Alibaba co founder Jack Ma catapulted into the top echelon of technology after his giant retailer’s 2014 IPO more than doubled his net worth to $22.7 billion. Now he’s not only the richest man in China, but also also the richest-ever Chinese techie.

China may be on the move but the majority of tech wealth still resides in the U.S. Microsoft's MSFT -1.89% Bill Gates remains in the lead: for the 16th out of the past 21 years, he is not only the richest person in technology, but also the richest person on the planet, with a net worth of $79.2 billion. His wealth grew even as Gates unloaded about a third of his remaining stake in Microsoft over the past year, gifting $1.5 billion to his philanthropic foundation. That helped former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer became the company’s single-largest shareholder last year. He’s spread some of his wealth, though: Ballmer paid a record $2 billion for the LA Clippers after fellow billionaire Donald Sterling was forced to sell the NBA team due to racist remarks.

Oracle ORCL -1.14% founder Larry Ellison’s fortune saw the second-largest gain in the list after Ma’s: the value of his publicly traded company helped him gain $6.6 billion this year, putting his total net worth at $54.3 billion.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg also climbed up the ranks as his social network plowed $19 billion in cash and stock into smartphone messaging platform WhatsApp, adding 700 million users to Facebook’s subscriber arsenal (and minting two more tech billionaires in the process). Zuckerberg added $4.9 billion to his net worth over the past year.

Google +0.22% cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were the only billionaires who rank among the top 15 richest in technology to see their fortunes slashed this year. Each of their fortunes took a $2.6 billion hit as Google stock slipped. Page, who is CEO, is currently worth an estimated $29.7 billion, while Brin, who heads up the elusive Google X division, is worth $29.2 billion.
